DAYDREAM V.6 represents the latest evolution in an installation series by the Paris-based duo NONOTAK, formed by visual artist Noemi Schipfer and architect-musician Takami Nakamoto. This immersive audiovisual work transforms space through the careful orchestration of light and sound, using advanced projection mapping technology to create what the artists call “space distortions.”
The installation was constructed using nine wooden frames arranged in sequence, each fitted with semi-transparent fabric screens. A digital projector casts geometric patterns onto these surfaces, which ‘catch’ some of the light, while the rest passes through them, creating layered, duplicate visuals. This technical setup generates an optical phenomenon: reality becomes fluid and perception shifts constantly.
DAYDREAM V.6 serves as a powerful metaphor for being disconnected from everyday reality. As visitors immerse themselves into the depth of the layered screens, they experience a gradual loss of spatial orientation. The initial perception of the floating graphics is that of distant light sculptures; as the motifs approach the viewer, however, the projections envelop them, creating the sensation that their surrounding environment is continuously transforming.
This work challenges us to reconsider our relationship with the intense sensory experiences of our digital age. Rather than overwhelming the senses, NONOTAK invites contemplation through hypnotic rhythms and gentle visual metamorphoses. The installation suggests a new approach to sensory immersion: it treats disorientation as a pathway to deeper self-reflection and a more profound connection with the fundamental elements that shape our perception of the world: light and sound.
