The Light Modulators I–III are Lajos Dargay’s masterpieces. Inside the three square-based
cuboid prism nickel frames, there are three bigger consecutive nickel disks surrounded by
smaller ones. As an interactive reaction to light, the plates are rotated by an electric motor.
These slowly revolving illuminated disks start a luminokinetic display: they spin around one
another following a special orbit, they reflect light flickering and shimmering and they
project light on their environment. Due to real and virtual motion, the constructions are
constantly changing, thus incorporating time as a constituent part of the artwork. The body
of the sculpture ensemble is finally dissolved by light and motion, the structure itself is
dematerialized and projected into space by the light it mirrors and reflects. This light
environment is the actual work of art Lajos Dargay intended to create.
Working at the intersection between art and science, Attila Csörgő’s (1965, Budapest) works seek to answer the question of whether the psychological laws of human vision can be endowed with a poetic form that both makes the viewer think and dislocates him from the fixed patterns of experience, with peculiar humor and detachment.
